C/2006 M4 SWAN two days after its major outburst. The comet was a bright object with the naked eye at mag 4.7 with lovely green ion tail stretching for 5 degrees slightly W of N in the 10X50 binoculars. Local astronomer John Mc Connell reports seeing the tail at 7 degrees long with the naked eye on the same night! The comet looked like a green exclamation mark within CrB. It shared the same bino field as 40 Herculi and M13. |
