The best shelf cloud I have ever seen in my life, this shelf was located on the leading edge of a massive severe multicell thunderstorm which had been moving SW to NE across the country all day being very well organised on radar with hundreds of sferics. We intercepted the storm on the country roads outside Ballyronan during the late evening and were astonished by the structure on view, the shelf stretched across the entire skyline with double tier laminar profile with horizontal strips dividing the tiers at the centre with a mid level canopy of clouds fanning forwards overhead. At the surface the lip of the shelf was solid and very low to the ground and behind this was a dark sky with green precipitation curtain similar to what one would see with severe storms in the USA, this green rain sheet would flash and strobe with pink lightning including close range dangerous c-g strikes. What a day this was, image shot with my trusty old Fujifilm S6500 bridge camera, read the report for more information. * All images are available for sale in the form of photo prints, canvas or digital files for licensing, if you are interested in a purchase simply drop me an email. |
