New Year's Eve on the north coast of N. Ireland on Downhill Beach during a night storm shoot. This is a distant hail shower over the sea with moonlit convection above in the form of cold air towering cumulus with stars aloft. You can see the curtains of hail lit by the moon falling in curves onto the ocean below where a fishing vessel can be seen in the course of it's nightly work, not doubt the fishermen on deck would have experienced a nasty hail squall soon after this image was taken, compare the height of the boat with the updraught above for a sense of scale, read the full image report from this night here. * All images are available for sale in the form of photo prints, canvas or digital files for licensing, if you are interested in a purchase simply drop me an email.
