Aurora 7-7

It was just before dawn on December 16/17th 2006 and I was out in my back garden searching for new comets until patchy clouds gathered in the eastern sky so I decided to take a walk up my estate to check out the low northern sky. Between 06.30 - 06.45 I observed a sudden aurora low in the north above an eastward drifting bank of clouds. The aurora was bright green/blue with the naked eye and located 15 degrees above the horizon and 20 degrees in azimuth. I seen it brighten and dim during the course of the 15 min's like a beating heart. If the clouds had of been vacant from the sky then I would have caught the complete auroral band. ISO 1600/15 sec exp at F/3.2. This is my second aurora sighting in as many nights and my 72nd sighting in total. As far as I am aware no one else witnessed this display. The aurora is the green form in the image and if you look very carefully there is also a faint purple colour present above the green. Above are the stars within Lacerta.
